Inspiring work! Matt's design is awesome and you brought it to life wonderfully. I was just talking with one of my coworkers last night about how much fun diffuse-only models are. This really makes me want to try making a diffuse-only mech after the beat-em-up challenge ends.

I projected as much detail as I could from the concept as a starting point for the texture, and I think I learn a lot by painting right on top of Matt's work.…
sampson: Yeah, I agree about the metal. Perhaps part of it was me being too literal in translating the concept, and I could have played up some stuff as you said. Goraaz: I've actually never used Deep Paint so I can't really say, but it probably depends on how you like to work. Obviously Firstkeeper and Slipgate, et al, do…

I'm thinking of switching to bodypaint but I've been using dp3d for so long that it's been kinda hard. I've been hearing about bodypaint being superior to dp3d but still I read about great artists using…
This is pretty damn amazing. I really like the hand painted style you got there. The final model looks so 2D (in the good way; it's always really hard to achieve a convincing "concept painting rendering" and you did it perfectly).
