At Blitz they gave me an art test which went well. They have art tests for animators also as they gave me the wrong max file which was for an animation test:) I was a bit of a noob back then and am not sure if they give tests to everyone, ie those with more experience. Weirdest test is at codemasters, I was there half a…
I've noticed a few art tests that are massive in scale. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, whats your opinion on the subject? it seems to me that asking someone, who already has a portfolio, and is looking for jobs in multiple places, to drop everything and do an art test for your company that consists of 4 or 5 world…
MoP, how your company does it may be fine. You may very well have great practices for how you dole out art tests. But, you aren't the only company around. If all companies followed your three cases there'd be a lot less tests given out. The problem is that a lot of companies don't. Some will throw out an art test to…
I just read this thread, and i feel like i could have completed an epic art test in that time, haha. I think when you get down to it, a week spent on an art test is a drop in the bucket. What I think is scary, is the investment of time necessary to have the skills to succeed at that art test. Sure, you might think spending…
If the epic long art test is something similar to what you would be doing anyway in your personal time, then I would definitely go for it. If it is not the kind of art that you would work on in your spare time, then don't do the test. The job probably would not work out in the long run anyways. Every company that I have…
warner makes a good point. Don't give week long art tests to applicants who clearly aren't going to get the job in the first place. That's just rude. Art tests should be tailored, and judged necessary on a case by case basis.
Doing an art test is not going to "get you a job". I can see why you may think it does because it worked for you, but that's not always the case. Lots of people do art tests and don't get the job. I've had friends who have not only done the art test, but reworked it several times based on critiques, who still have not…
Lol, thanks for the responses guys. I'll be sure to watch out for the fine print when my time comes to take an art test. At least while I'm just getting settled in the industry, I don't think I'll ever ask to be paid for a long art test. From what I can tell, it's only a handful that have the epic sized art tests anyway.…
