you could get a game that comes with an editor like Crysis, gears of war2/unreal tournament 3, COD4, or download valve's hammer. Then you can make a FPS level that you can actually play!
Hi guys, I'm planning to make a FPS environment and will using normal maps...well its an exercise to learn normal maps. Is it best to just use Maya shaders for the materials or is it best to use realtime shaders instead? If its best to use realtime shaders, what programs would i need? thanks
yeah, i thought about that. I already have COD4 and UT3 and have thought about Hammer but that would require learning the tool chain. Which engine would you say is the easiet to learn?
yeah, i heard that UT3 was the best documented, think i'll give that a try. just checked my copy of UT3 and its the special edition with the UT3 engine dvd. :)In the meantime i think will use maya's nodes as then i won't have to worry about rendering,etc...
i would say that unreal would be the best to learn since there is a lot of info out about how to use it. also good for marketing urself in the later time to the industry.
a friend of mine always said "unreal is the whore everyone once fucked, so you can ask anybody he can tell you how to treat that bitch" he's right, nothing easier to learn then unreal, as soooo many people have used it
