i have been having this problem lately with wireframe views on 3ds max when i press F4 , this is getting really annoying since it tens to make the wireframe eligible, it even happens on lowpoly models, this started to happen with no reason one day :S
I bet it has something to do with the scale of your scene. Shaded wireframe mode internally makes a live copy of your mesh and pushes it out a tiny amount. If the scene is too huge or too small, precision gets wacky. Try using the Rescale World Units utility (don't use it if your model is rigged though), see if it goes…
