another way you might use is select an edge that is at a right angle to the loop, hit ring instead of loop, and use connect. then you can choose how many loops to add edit: bronco, do you need the chamfer when the connect tool can specify the number of loops to add?
I normally either use modify-connect-chamfer the connect will add a loop in the centre of your currently selected polys then the chamfer will divide that new loop into quads. John
hi this has probably been answered before but I can't find it. basically, if I want to add an extra row of quadrangles from point a to point b, essentially adding an "edge loop", what is the best way in edit poly mode? thanks.
just adding my vote for ring select>connect another spiffing one is if you need to do the old 1 edge transition to 3 edges (retaining quads and upping local detail), do a loop select and do a flat edge extrude.
[ QUOTE ] edge ring select, connect then constraint to edge and move-tool on the verts if i want the new edge loop to be non-centered. [/ QUOTE ] In the connect dialog box there is a spinner for "slide" that lets you slide the connecting edge around without needing to create it and then switch your constraints.
