Hey, I'm working in maya, and I'm pretty much wondering if there is a function for edge loops/verticies that does the same thing as relax UV's? I have a few edge loops on my model that are a bit wonky, and while I can go in and rework them all that takes a lot of time for something that should be a relatively simple…
I'm not sure If this is what you're looking for, but often If I have a surface that is a little on the bumpy side for my liking, I'll grab the verts in that area and hit polygons>average vertices. In concept it's very similiar to relaxing.
Select your edge loop than convert it to vertices with Edit Polygon>>Selection>>Convert selection to vertices. Then you can use the Polygons>>Average Vertices tool which has a similar effect as relax UV. Or with the vertices selected you can use the Edit Polygons>>Sculpt geometry tool set to Smooth.
of course. polysculpt or polymagus script, not sure which one had it in there. very fast as long as you're using max5 and beyond. since my max version doesn't have built-in (and useful) uv-relax, i use this prior to unwrapping and morph the mesh back into the original shape afterwards.
