At whatever stage you built your low poly model, be it import a version of the zspheres, or a custom built in max, make the changes in max. I don't really understand the question as I showed in the video how to import stuff into max and still use it to generate normals. Why can't you just make cuts in it in max?
Yeah, actually now that I think about it some more there shouldn't really be a problem. Thanks for the Tut, mate. Perhaps I'll have more questions once I've actually gone through and made my own model.
