Flickering shadows, polygon errors and so on means your video RAM is so hot that data corruption occurs (VERY bad!). I've had that happen pretty often on hot days with my Radeon 8500, black polygons would start to flicker over the scene, few seconds later the whole system froze. Do whatever you can to make it run cooler.
The OC in "Geforce 5500FX OC" is over clocked? If so try turning it back to normal. I had CoD running on a Geforce4 4600TI for a VERY long time and had no issues.
