Two draw calls per model isn't a lot. Many games use a combination of tiled textures and trim textures. There should be no problem with tiling horizontally and the size of an object. If you have a wall that's 3 times as wide as another wall just scale the UVs for the trim sheet 3 times horizontally. I'm not sure about this…
