The cube layout is fine, it's as it should be - 13 texel density, no scaling, fits with more than enough space left. My scene is set to centimeters with Z as vertical axis. Yes, it just takes the same layout as it did before, but scales it down to fit into the grid: However, scaling changes texel density. I only use scaling when making lightmaps.
I chose texel density of 13 because it's equal to 300x300 cm tile with 4096 texture. And this prison bed is about 212x106 cm. I guess I'll just have to layout it manually... I'm out of ideas why maya behaves like that.
