Sorry, I didn't realize those were already 4k renders. Doesn't seem like a sampling issue, then. There should be link to your hair render settings somewhere in the Hair and Fur modifier or you can access it under environment effects. Are you rendering using Hair and Fur's own buffer (render settings don't have influence on that and you should increase your sampling there) or geometry? Double or quadruple your render resolution to check if sampling is the problem (if your hair taper out to zero it might be a lot smaller than a pixel, so it might make…
Can you post the guide you are using? Maybe try enabling the the global supersampler in the Render Setup | Renderer tab. And change the Antialiasing filter to Catmull-Rom.
