Hi all. Polybition Studios is a new games company that is starting development on the 9th of January 2017. We are currently looking to fill the role of character artist/animator for a 6 month project. All work will be carried out remotely so, as we are based in London, applications from similar time zones will be given…
I'm interested in how you came to these estimates MamoruK. 2 months of rigging for a month of animation seems ridiculous and on the 15 games I've shipped over the last decade wouldn't expect to manage resources like this for such a short production. Nemcy, are these characters able to share proportions / share animation.…
9 of these characters will be used for character customisation options, so the proportions will be identical. The rest will have unique animations, 90% of which will be humanoid. We will be aiming for approximately 50 animations in total not per character.
@theazzI said 1-2 months. It takes me 10-20 hours to make a rig depending on the complexity of it from scratch. So that's 2-4 rigs per week so it could be as little as 1 month or as long as 2 months. I consider myself fairly efficient in time spent on things. And I averaged on 5 hours per animation to complete for polished…
You would honestly be better off seeking out 2 specialists if you want this done in 6 months. As and experienced animator/rigger I can tell you that it'll likely be 1-2 months just for rigging the characters alone. Then another month for the animations. You would want to a character to be done and then handed off to the…
Hey there Would you consider an artist and an animator (2 people) rather than a generalist? You will likely get more responses and better work in the end if you got 2 specialists :)
@MamoruK thanks for replying dude, its interesting to see how others work, I didn't expect that animators rigged by hand from scratch that much but as he said 9 of the characters are identical in proportions which would knock a huge chunk of that off anyway!
We would like to have these tasks handled by one person ideally. However, if we are unable to find someone that can fill this position then we will consider hiring two specialists.
