Added new sword gif. The longer reach does appear better, however I messed up the export and one of the swings has more frames than the other. Somehow it affects the character controllers ability to pivot and cleanly strike behind as he did in the first gif I posted. Furthermore I think I may switch to posting youtube…
Thanks for the responses guys! I have tweaked the sword swing to come out slightly further during the arc. Will post a gif when I can. @derphouse what do you have in mind for the smear frames? I had been looking at getting a stretchy effect through a shader but that didn't pan out.
