really?? when i go to open file, i use shortcut (mine is double click), i double click it many time, the direct folder shortcuts wont show up update: i restart my max and now its working smoothly, i dont know my 3dsmax error or direct folder error -

perhaps your shortcut is the problem? does 2016 have any changes in the file dialog and interprets it differently from older versions by any chance? anyway in case it turns out to be not all that reliable a combination, you could give the alternative product Filebox Extender a try. -

It works for me, when I go to Open File, or when I'm loading a bitmap in the Material Editor, a middle click shows me the Direct Folders shortcuts list. Windows 8.1, Max 2016. -

Still have this, but it seems to work randomly. I'm using 2018. I opened a bug, there seems to be a problem with the dialogue box. I doubt it will ever get fixed however. Max is the only software I've encountered that did this. -

Do not run 3D Studio Max as administrator - unfortunately, this means Max won't be able to save into 'system files' (Documents, AppData) unless you change the admin rights on that side. This is a 100% solution - I'll contact the devs and see if there's a fix. Incidentally, this also affects Photoshop and probably a load of… -
