I think you don't have to blend your slope results with your leveled tiles afterwards to keep the areas between the tiles. Just check in the slope node the mode and change it from Blur to Min. That should make sure that it only cuts into your tiles. But of course you can do it like this as well :)
Here is a shot of the progress I am making. I want to try and round off some of the corners of the tiles a little bit but can't think of the best way to do this. I thought may be a transform 2D node may work with a circular shape and use it as a mask but I couldn't get it to work :( Right now I am using various noise nodes…
Can we ask questions here? I am still new at Substance Designer and I wanted to know how to get the chipped away effect on the edges of the tiles. I am using a simple shape node for the tile and using various other nodes to fine tune the shape but I can't seem to grasp how to chip away the edges. Any help is appreciated :)
This is an excellent idea, just as I'm starting to learn the program and node based programs :] Here's my start at it, just the base shape of the tiles. I'm trying to add more damage and variation to the edges, like chipped off corner(s) and such but couldn't get it to work so well :[ Trying to target (mask) only the edges…
This is my start so far. I'm still chipping away at the form/normal map. I'll work on the diffuse once I've got that looking solid. Tzur_H : a good way to get damage on edges is the slope blur node. Turn up samples to 32, pick some noise like clouds and adjust to your desire. Visceral : Nice start. I've recently been…
Hey everyone. Recently I've been trying to up my game on substance designer, like many of you. After working with someone else proved most helpful, I decided what better way to expand on that than create one of the many loved challenge threads. How it works * Each week I will be posting a new texture for us to make. * You…
There are tons of ways of doing this, but a simple one is to choose a shape that has smooth borders or blur it, then blend it with a noise using an Add Sub blending mode. You can also use warps and Non uniform blurs to add some cool variations.
I agree with the above post, but in my work I have noticed that the min mode doesnt work quite as expected, and will actually brighten some pixels, which I've had mess with grout on a few occasions. I usually multiply the grout back in afterwards to solve this.
@ScrotieFlapWack Glad to help out =] @EbolaV Yeah you definitely don't have to blend it back in when using the min mode, but like @somedoggy said it tends to leave some lightened spots, which honestly probably aren't that noticeable but I like to have a more defined grout line. I'm probably just being super picky haha =]
Ok I am revisiting mine at some point today. @walklikethis your results are crazy man can't stop looking at it haha. I think the two area's I need to focus on is my blending and understanding masks a little better. Things get completely messy for me when I start blending and using various blend modes and also when I try to…
