Mask the left and right sides, and lay down left and right sides of the original. Then touch up the middle as needed. You could even use parts of the original.
thanks this actually helped but I did it a bit differently. I havent done any disp maps but just projected one side of the sculpt while other side was masked and then offset the sculpt and projected another side. I guess this is what you meant. Here is the result
If I mask one side then it will tile only from one side. I need the short plane to tile from left and right with itself and with the big plane. Maybe I am mistaken but you describe the masking part a bit better please ?
There are many ways to sculpt tiled cliffs. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/EnvironmentSculpting#Tiled_Cliffs_and_Grounds You could easily adapt one of these to make half-width variations. Just make a displacement map of your finished sculpt, make a new half-width plane, then lay down the map using a mask so it only applies…
