Ok cool. I am pretty much a complete beginner with animation but i got the basic concept down. Still having a hard time with weights and stuff. Pretty much at the moment I am working with animations by positioning the model in each key frame.
You can also use Morph Target \ Blend Shape animation for this, if I'm not mistaken. You model the scroll as fully opened, then you deform it as it would be fully rolled and you use the fully opened version as the morph target.
