Ok so i figured it out, well a way around it anyway. When i imported the heightmap into UE4 i simply increased the Z scale to 390 instead of 100 and that seems to have done the job. Thanks for the advice guys.
Can you? Do you know where I can find that setting in UE4? I was hoping that it was some simple thing to do with the bake settings that maybe I missed, because even the colour range on the heightmap doesn't look right seeing as the terrain has quite a bit of depth in Mudbox.
