Yeah, most I7's have a very good price/performance ratio. You can go with an I5 but you literally get what you pay for. Usually with CPUs there is an insane price curve but the mid-range I7's have been very good value for money lately. The high end I7's are another story though. I want to echo this sentiment. So many people worry about components. No matter what you buy right now, it will be obsolete in 3-4 years. A monitor is one piece of equipment that will last through 2, 3, even 4 upgrade cycles. Don't skimp; spend the money on the right monitor and it will outlast any components you have. -

Yeah and even the smallest cases usually have a space for an SSD and a HDD. So you can do your 120-256gb SDD and a 1TB HDD without any issue. But sure, even if you somehow only have 1 slot for a drive you can do external storage. -

Hence external HDDs which anyone will already have full of their stuff anyway. No need to duplicate it all again on a new HDD. Until you can afford a new one that is. You dont put music on your SSD. ya but andreas im sure most people here couldn't even get a fraction of there stuff on the computer with a 256gb ssd only, all of my current 3d and texture work would kill a 3rd of that, and my music collection alone is 300gb so would never fit. -

I wouldnt skip on an SSD anymore; new rigs should have even a small 64Gb one now. They eill make a huge difference and they have never been cheaper. Get the cheapest RAM you can, RAM is RAM but get as high a MHz rating as you can. If you are on a budget I would suggest you do what I do and dont even get a HDD till you can… -

I would go with an i7. You never know when youre going to need multi-threading, and overclocking is more of a gamers/benchmarkers game.
