I've not tried it out on a dense model, I would imagine the transition smoothness would play a bigger part for that scenario? Then I guess you'd end up with a lot of "These bones are close enough to tidy up... but those are terrible"? It reminds me of my rigs of yester-year where I'd duplicate the mesh, and break it up…
