Well I don't think it matters what you use the paintover is just to get a feel where you are going with it, many things change after that. And with option nr 3, you could do it in photoshop and then camera map the paintover to the geo in your 3D app. I would not do that tough, cause I have a heard time seeing the paintover…
@Martin: Thank you that script worked wonders, I am in the process of packing everything back in now. Man I can not thank you guys enough, quite honestly since I found out about polycount I have learned more here than the 3 years so far of college. Edit: Here we go, the new unwrap! I could pack it alittle bit tighter but I…
I suppose this is what having no reference gets you. I can't tell if it's better or worse. It looks a lot different, though. I decided to take it in a different direction, and I've been listening to your advice. I've made the eyes slightly more rounded, filled out the face a bit, and started working at lower levels. I…
Game Developer/The IDGA used to do annual salary surveys. IIRC for artists with 0-3 years of experience could expect an average between 30-50k, varying with skill level, location, etc, but thats the only stat I can remember with any sort of accuracy. They have a couple of older ones (2003 I think is the newest) on…
Marcus, Since I don't know which virus you got I have some links below that might help you out before you go crazier and reformat, even though every 6 months to a year that should happen on a regular basis. Newest info: http://www.trap17.com/forums/page-3-t20262-s20.html Older:…
you guys know of any resources for learning to write shaders? i'm part of a 3 man game team and the only graphics artist, so it falls to me to write our shaders. we've made some fun indie games but now im wanting to create something real (i.e. with normalmaps, color specular, bloom, etc.) I would really like to make…
The main problem that i see is that flat extruded feel that your model has. trigger guard is as thick as the grip and grip itself has really sharp edges and distinguishable sides. because of that it looks uncomfortable to hold and design feels more cheap. that horizontal piece with 3 convex stripes also is 100% flat while…
this project is for the character modeling class I'm auditing. I got approval for use of the concept from a dominance war 3 2d artist named Stefan Atanasov. sorry he fought for cgsociety and not polycount :) anyways, what you see here is my initial base mesh. I'll be doing a lot of hard surface modeling for the high poly…
WD is pretty reliable but I guess every drive here or there fails. I've always stuck with seagates and WDs though since they are the big brands. I had an external WD(mybook) fail on my though and the recovery price was ridiculous. It was upwards a thousand for a 250 gig drive and just didn't feel it was worth it. It caused…
A few tips based on my experience: 1. Use a tripod! 2. take WAY more photos than you think you'll need. Shoot from different distances, angles, time of day, etc. What looks good on your rear viewfinder won't necessarily look good when blown up on a monitor. 3. Lighting is extremely important. If you are shooting outdoors,…
