2 year necro inbound. My bad. Figured it was funnier than to just start fresh. Graduating soon and also starting to get back into drawing/digital painting so I'll be updating more than once every two years. Starting off with a creature, a Licker from the Resident Evil series.
Made some more progress on my sculpt today, I'm pretty new to modelling creatures so if anyone spots any obvious anatomy errors please let me know! I'm pretty pleased with how it is coming out so far but there's clearly a long way to go to differentiate it from the default:
i stopped playing MTG shortly after the Serra cycle... the cycle after it, which had the big avatars (might, fury, etc...) was ok, but it started introducing silly rules that made the game stupid. that saying, i had a white/green deck which allowed for an unlimited life/creature combo \o/
I think right your biggest weak point I see is that all your characters feel the same. They're all rubbery in body shape. Change it up a bit, get out of your comfort zone. Instead of another snail or snake like creature do something with a lot of musculature and limbs.
But there is a story to the creature and its legs are not supossed to be longer. He uses the upper body more for swinging from tree to tree. Lives in the Jungle. Plus i not stirring to make him look more human like that was not my goal. Thanks for the advice though:) I will still look up the issues you suggested.
dialate would be the creature that cpt swing is refering too, I use it a fair bit at work. Beyond that if the object compliments it thene there is no problem with going rectangular on the maps....512x1024 for instance, which could save on your texture space. edit* aww balls beaten byace-angel...well thems the breaks :D
Hi Dan! Yes, that's average Hero character spec when I outsource with a studio. That's also about how long it took for the badass character dudes at Vigil for most creatures. Individual contract artists tend to be a lot faster, though, in my experience. 20 days sounds like a terrific rate of speed!
The bat wings just don't work. Aside from the fact that it's changed from a 4-limbed creature to a 6-limbed one, you need to remember that a bat's wings are (essentially) modified arms & hands. While bat eyes can be small, they are there; no bats are really blind. The legs seem to have an extra joint.
@GhostDetector: Regarding your third paragraph, I do not think I can just "add armor" to an anatomically constructed creature and call it a strong character design. @artquest had a better idea with starting with a theme, which helped me push forward and make decisions the last time I did this contest.
My first project I've ever done in Zbrush ! This is a creature bust model based off of a drawing by Uros Sljivic on ArtStation ( https://www.artstation.com/artwork/JQVmD ) . I learned a lot from this project and I had fun using the program, but it also got pretty frustrating . I'd like to keep practicing with Zbrush,…
