Just popping a bit of fresnel multiplied with the diffuse in the emissive channel is a simple trick, using a very small number will basically nullify it sunlight, but will make it pop a bit more in shadow. Cheaty and not correct, but works decently.
Yep that's max. You can also create lava bubbles that pops by creating a hemisphere. Then create a lava texture with a roughed up opacity around the top, animate the UVs so they move vertically and the bubble will pop.

I vote for more sharper edges, and more values in ur colors. more colors in shadows/highlight would increase the values and make it POP! I always say that but hEY! when it POP! it win! b1llly
Looks better, but the grout should be rougher than the stones, right now it's the opposite! Doing this will help them pop more. I would also look at generating a heightmap and using the BumpOffset node - for extra pop.
