About the mirror thing, show us your the UVs for the normal map and also the UVs for the light map. In UDK/UT3 mirrored normal maps require the UV seam to be vertical, light maps on the other hand sometimes require the mirrored UVs to be un-mirrored and welded together with the other half. That has to do with your camera clip plane distance. It usually happens when you are importing objects or opening old scenes that have a massive scale compared to the default centimeters units.
