Hey guys, kind of an age old problem, but does anyone have a solution to being able to dynamesh past 7+mil verts without the model exploding? I just upgraded to 2018, but that doesn't seem to be working either. I've tried the typical uniform and scaling the mesh, but no luck. Thoughts?

I have tried to map the ambient occlusion of a legging in xnormal and maya, but in both programs the details of the clothes do not appear and it gets very bad, always smooth and very white, someone knows what to do for the details to appear strong in the image of the ambient occlusion? xNORMAL: Maya 2018 as the clothing is:
eg. I make some alpha leaves, put them on some geometry and now I want to bake loads of these down to a plane Ideally this would be a solution that works in maya 2018 .. any suggestions? The main thing is that the bake needs to support alpha blended transparency thanks

In maya 2018 and later you can do this by ctrl+middle mouse drag with the move tool and component selection activated. m4dcow got it, but an important detail to note is that you have to be in object mode, not face/component mode.
You must have messed up along the way. Max 2018>Blender 2.80(what I'm using) with .FBX is flawless. Scale is identical. Normal directions/UV unwrap/smoothing groups all perfectly preserved.
I'm surprised a thread wasn't started sooner. After AMC dropped the ball on the Prisoner remake I was concerned Westworld would follow suit, but I really enjoyed this season. It'll be a long wait until 2018.
Still have this, but it seems to work randomly. I'm using 2018. I opened a bug, there seems to be a problem with the dialogue box. I doubt it will ever get fixed however. Max is the only software I've encountered that did this.
