Hello guys and girls, Need some advice on some retopo/low poly making. I have created this stone wall, which is shown in the image below and I have tried to ways for a low poly. 1. A plane with some curve to it - fairly good results but very flat I looked at a tutorial by someone on here who uses 3ds max and made some…
yeah, it looks like you just exported the culpt, that bears no metallic qualities and stuck it ingame. I think you need to bake a spec map and drop it on your texture. It's also completely nonshiny, just compare it to the shoulderpiece. This way it looks like you helmet is made out of stone, but bears no material quality…
Oh I forgot about the whole duplicating layers thing to deal with the crazy rainbow pixels that appear when you sharpen too much, thanks Jessica! Edit: Alllsoooo one last critique for now. I'd go back and paint some more depth into the stones around the doorway and stairs. It goes from the light hitting the stone to just…
Don't worry, you don't come off as a jerk at all. I know sometimes I feel the exact same; I'll get a critique on something and I dont apply it because I'd rather start from scratch (you can't polish a turd :D ), and I think people sometimes think I'm lazy But yah, for sure look into vertex blending and ambient occlusion.…
I really like the style. This is very promising. I'm with Tobbo, adding some color would help a lot, maybe the straps holding the stone in place could have some color. Maybe putting tribal markings on it? idk, just ideas. The one thing that really stood out to me, was that the blade should probably be much lighter than the…
Cheers Swizzle, your guy came out really well too :) Actually I started out having more spec on the scales, but since their diffuse was darker, the overall effect ended up making her skin look really uniform (darker diffuse + lighter spec = similar end result), so I toned down the spec in order to pop the contrast. On…
This is the substance I am working on right now. It's gonna be a Medieval Window! For the first time I will make a more complex material consisting of subgraphs that are blend together. I want to push myself and make something that needs alot more effort than my previous materials, so I thought this would be a good…
The comic book style is the DEFINITE sticking point here, no more theme changes allowed :) . The lack of a deadline was the kicker here, I just kept thinking, 'oohhh, this would be cool' and going off on a tangent all the time. Believe it or not, I've got a sketchpad and a half full of sketches for this project. I think…
Your image sizes are horrifying. Don't take this the wrong way, but nobody needs to see an almost completely black spec-map taking up the entire size of their screen. Keep your images relatively small. Remember - the website is there to give people a fast preview of your work and your skills - not slap them in the face…
The top two and the latest one look great! Nice work I think you have stone and brick pretty much down. The wood I'm not too excited about. I think you applied too much of what you know about brick and mortar to wood. - The edges of the boards are beveled and worn individually as if they haven't been next to each other…
