As far as I know you can't do that with the shaders that ship with maya. I totally understand why you would want that though. I did try making a quick fake SSS shader network a while ago and ran into similar problems. I haven't really looked into it but I think this does what you're looking for:… -

Thanks for the help guys it has really helped me in choosing the right card :) Sorry EarthQuake, I should have stated the budget. Anything below £100 was what I was aiming for. In the end I ended up buying a GTS 450 for £77 which included postage, so I will have to wait and see if it is up for some SSS fun time in UDK. -

Awesome as usual, but like Brad was saying those ears need something. I don't think it's the shape and modeling that's doing it, it's the texture. Maybe some nice faked SSS in the backs of them, more blood flow like you have going with the rest of the face, lotta blood vessels in the ears, could probably get a bit darker… -
Mental Ray Fast Skin issues
Hello guys i'm having some weir problems with MRs SSS fast skin material, no matter what i do, no matter what lightsources i use, the brightest part will always be grayish. I thought it might be some gamme stuff but as you see other MR shaders can get white. I really don't know whats going on and its driving me crazy :/ -
