Booleans in zbrush using dynamesh is fine, just avoid relying to heavily on booleans in max or maya. -

You can slice it with a clip curve if you use dynamesh. Other than that I dunno. -

3d-coat handles booleans and dynamesh type sculpting tasks way better than zbrush. -

That or Mudbox, but Mudbox lacks Dynamesh, which allows you to freely rough sculpt a lot better. -
