Inset/chamfer the quads before you extrude them. This will help isolate the cylinder from the extrusion. Then chamfer the rising edges of the extrusion to retain the rectangular corners. I did a Google images search for "subdivision modeling extrude cylinder" and found this gem of a thread again:…
looks cool so far. A couple of things bother me tho. His lower eyelids are super inset at the bottom, feels like he might be missing fat pads beneath his eyes. That and he looks like he´s tensing his neck muscles, might relax those a bit
Just throwing this out there, because I'm not sure Marmoset supports it, but are you going to put the paneling as a separate material with parallax mapping? I'm thinking it'll look really good on the main plaque and on the tympane/fronton. because they're both inset sculptures like this…
Welcome to the dark side :) Here's a thread that might help you. And a video on action centers. About the hotkeys, make sure in the Input Editor that Context is set to (contextless) or Component Mode. I think Inset might be tool.set poly.inset on EDIT: Here's another post from a while back that might be of interest to you.
Worked on another window. But I only realised after that it needs a wall that has a hole in it, as it's a very inset window. Might be an issue as that means there's a lot of space either side of it if I want to place another window of the same kind next to it. I'll have to think of something else. Hopefully I can salvage…
Some of your curves are wobbly and fight each other. For example, the triangular grill above the ear piece doesn't fit with the inset around it. Overall, I don't like the narrowness of the visor. On the second view from the left, the helmet looks like it's too high, like she's wearing two helmets at once.
Hey Jacob, looks like you got a pretty solid start there. Just a note that a lot of people on the forum use imgur to post pics here, which lets you use BB codes to inset images in the text rather than as thumbnails. Good luck, keep posting your progress shots!
Hi! I have a few questions regarding normal map baking in Maya and a modeling question. Im creating a model which cannot exceed 30 t. trangles. It is fairly complicated. The way I want to do it, is to create a lowpoly model and then create a high poly model, and bake the normal map from high poly onto the low poly in…
BAH! After several driver re-installs, rollbacks, updates and setting changes, I've realized that the preview I'm talking about only occurs on Editable Poly, not Edit Poly. Ridiculous in the same way that only Edit Poly has the Inset function. Some days I just feel like destroying computers.
Time for another update i guess, altho it's small, most work went into the panel since last update - damn details. @EQ : Thanks, i ended up rotating the panel and buttons, only leaving the top-screws straight and then redid the screw-insets a little to compensate for the rotation. The On/Off stuff is floaters now !
