I actually haven't used it as a grid system.. but it definetly should be possible. Problem is though that you can't snap to grid. You can change the grid settings under the draw dropdown. To answer your other question: You can toggle the X, Y and Z icon in the floor buttom located directly underneath the perspective button… -

You just have to map the right mouse button to the lower rocker button on the Wacom pen and the middle mouse button to the upper rocker button. Works like a charm.
