all I did was plug the normals and the lighting is default daylight scene for the most part. so id suspect your lighting man. oh and sorry also I threw it on a default mesh and obviously I don't have the texture, so its only showing a portion of the normals at work. -

Did you put your settings in to a preset? Vray tends to default back to default if rendersettings are non preset,i had it a few times,dunno why it does that.seems vray doesnt store the rendersettings in a scenenode,when it gathers data prior to render,except when presets are made -

Are we talking Default Quality, High Quality or ViewPort 2.0? If we are talking High Quality or 2.0 then there's settings where you can change things such as "Color texture resolution" (which is 256 by default). Think this might be why you have a low res layered shader viewport result. -

Nice. I gotta suggestion for you. Would it be possible to dictate where the default lighting position for a model is? For instance, I usually end up moving mine below the model a little bit so I can get some different shadows than what you see by default. -

did the GUIs EVER look right? You can try going one step further and deleting the .ini files that start with UDK.. AND the .ini files that start with Default. The default ones can get autogenerated too, but it's a bit more nuke-from-orbit if you've done any unrealscripting or custom modding. -

Hate to necro a thread, but I have some questions that google didn't help with. How do you subdivide the default avatars, if that's possible? How do you make a symmetrical pose without having to eyeball it? Can you save poses? Also, is it possible to remove the high-heels on the default female avatars? -

Ohh, when you get it, if you're always going to work with it plugged in, there will be an object in the taskbar shapped like a battery, with a #% inside to indicate how much battery is left. Click it and it allows you to go into a list of power management settings. It should be set to "Thinkpad Default"...by default, but… -

ah, well if your mesh is fine then you maybe have 2 default lights which can produce nasty result. I never get which shortcut does it. Anyway, in the viewport, right click ont the "+">configure viewports>lighting and shadows > default lights > be sure 1 light is checked. -

Yeah in xnormal you need to set up a cage in the 3d viewer to make sure the projection mesh is averaged. By default the projection mesh is split on your hard edges, which means missed rays. [edit] You could also bake in maya, as it does the "correct" method by default i believe.
