We do outsourcing, and having the ability to reset the system all by itself without Ghost or any other software sounds nice. Especially when a dozen of client tools creates DLL-hell on your machine (also, is there any studio that writes uninstallers for their tools???) -

This can happen in any studio where the staff is uneducated about IP issues, where the staff includes people who just don't care, where crunch and deadlines force people to take questionable shortcuts. This doesn't just happen to outsourcers in Elbonia only. -

also, if you want to be an environment artist, focus on making entire environments. a portfolio with a crate, barrel and dumpster does not make you an environment artist, thats a prop artist folio, and chances are props like that will be made in 20 mins by artists on the team or outsourced to china. -

Here's a tip from the stuff I see at work in outsourcing: look into physically based shaders and get comfortable working with them and their texture types. Linear workflows will also get more important. I just hope more tools will support all this soon. -

Re: Mari - does anyone actually use it?
I have heard some foundry folk say that Mari is used in the game industry, though I have yet to see it. Maybe for outsourced cinematics or blizzard cinematics department... but its hard to imagine it being used for game textures due their price point. -
