@sacboi Yessir, practice does make perfect. For example, I struggle with making nice, well shaded gun wooden stocks. So currently practicing those atm, to get a hang of them
Perna, I'm speechless. May I ask how you approach modelling in a scenario like this? What was your process? Sorry for the standard questions, I'm still trying to digest your example.
Something of a balancing act obviously as you advocate minimal geo but that example mesh looked far from minimal. :). But thanks for putting this together, it's appreciated! I'll keep those double loops in mind...
It is definitely elevated in mine too. What steps did you take to make your example? Looks like the part where the cylinder slants down into the elevated art is a straight drop with no curve?
Model out something like this: Then something like this and just use booleans to cut the geometry: Then just clean up the geometry. Here is a quick and shitty example of what I did in few minutes:
You want the Screw modifier. Here's an example using only vertices with Skin & Subsurf for thickness + Screw for twisting. You'll need to do a quick reading on Skin in case you're going this route but are unfamiliar with it.
Let me paste an example from a recent 80lv article, I hope they won't mind (https://80.lv/articles/002mrs-004adk-modeling-a-revoler-high-low-poly-uvs-baking/).
@Thanez thank you for taking the time to answer me. For your first example, I had already made similar tests, the problem is that by adding this edge loop we modify the shape of the object. The second example is interesting and gives a better result because it doesn't deform anything. I'm on blender maybe it's different on…
I find that with screws, it's much easier to use fewer sides on the helix and creased edges instead of support loops. In my example the helix has 8 sides. The lower side count allows deeper threads to tie off at a smoother angle where the threading ends. There are some minor visual artifacts near the tie-off point, but…
hi , i just want to ask, about joining between 2 mesh which is cylinder and square part . i need a good polygon connection , can someone tell me how ? this is example of mine .
