For such object you don't need Hi poly at all. Just "rounded corners', "bevel" or whatever it may be called shader. Almost evry 3d package or offline renderer has one. Arnold does for example. No cage necessary, no troubles with ray missing .
Mental Ray is obselet, you should just start learning render engine with V-ray, if you're looking for a free one there are plenty available ( Guerrila Render ( <- really great ! ) Clarisse, Renderman ( might be wrong ? ), Arnold with the latest maya, etc ) hf !
Try searching, I commented on a similar thread recently. http://polycount.com/discussion/188226/maya-external-world-rigs-and-rendering-vertex-coloring While not an exact solution, the video i posted shows how to get vertex colors working with arnold.
Hello, I'm having trouble exporting from Bridge. Bridge exports a mesh without textures. There is a redshift in the render settings. If I change the render to Arnold, export works exellent. I would be glad if someone can help me with this problem.
A project I made to improve my character skills. It's a semi-realistic take on Young Nahoko from "The wind rises". Modeling done in zbrush/maya, texturing in Mari, shading, lighting and rendering with Arnold. Xgen hair. On my Artstation too: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/5484z
Hi, guys. I'm trying to learn 3d craft by myself. This is my first 3D model. I've done it in Maya 2017 and rendered with Arnold. It took me one day and most of the time I spend on texturing. Give me please any feedbacks.
And finally, after a lot of work, I can call it done for now! Here is some renders done in Maya, with Arnold. Hope you like it guys! Also I did a polypaint render inside Zbrush (but I don't like it to much):
Ah ok thanks for the reply. Yea I'll see if I can figure out how to convert any of that into Arnold for Maya. I might just want to try to get Marmoset in general though, people seem to get nice results with it.
Hi all I've uploaded a bunch of progress shots of my renders, I plan on re-rendering in Arnold when I have the time but does anyone know how I can push this to the next level? http://imgur.com/a/OqXn5
Working on an Environment. I thought this would be a simple yet great scene to try out and build up knowledge before moving on to a more intricate Environment next time around. Working with Arnold aswell for the Lighting and Rendering Concept By : https://www.artstation.com/artwork/GEmzW
