Usually I'm in favor of a slight increase in poly count (maybe up to 10-15% for a prop more for architecture) if it can save me space, memory, and time in texturing. Even compressed, textures are nearly always more memory heavy than models. As an example, a model I made recently for work had about 20,000 tris and used a…
So I had a look at Pumbaa's files for this asset, and had a couple things to write up about. I edited the lowpoly to match back up to the high as i think you edited it, trying to "fit" the high inside it. No need to do this, this is what the cage/envelope is for, and doing this sort of tweaks is only going to make things…
Incidentally I was just messing about with Corona today. Still not perfect, but has improved somewhat. Blending between intersecting meshes seems arbitrary(or at least only blends perpendicular?) MentalRay was the first to do it. Now gone from Max, although the Autodesk Material(not A&D material) is still there and it also…
Thanks chrisavigni! --- Change notes: -Downloaded the newest build of Cryengine 3 that had a ton of new updates and seems to be giving me some more visual fidelity. Apparently My build was old (from 2011) so I really benefited from the update. -Figured out how to do a more modular workflow that works better for me. I used…
I'm not a fan of subscription based services. I visit CGTextures maybe once a month to grab what I need. I'm very tempted by your textures though, so I may check it out. However, to be completely honest, I'm only planning on grabbing what I need and then cancelling my subscription. At 15 textures per day, I could probably…
All two sided materials do in most games is add more tris. So if you don't add the planes before export your tree will be 1000 tris. But in game it will be 1024 (or whatever). So at least doing them in the 3d program will give you an accurate tri count. I also do all leaves one sided, the copy/flip normals before export.…
The skyscraper I've been working on is yet unfinished, but I used some of the finished pieces of it to construct another building, just to see how versatile they are. I think it's turning out decently, but I'm regretting that I chose to make an exterior environment. I have to have something as presentable as possible in…
While everyone remembers the forum reset of 2004, there was another reset in 2006 that we kinda swept under the rug. GameSpy was changing their hosting infrastructure, which is why the Polycount front page got a quick-and-dirty makeover, and why we lost most of the main site content, including the model archives. They just…
Game piracy is a pretty big issue. I'm not sure how much actually goes back to the developers, but I'm sure, as they say, 'every penny counts.' I've changed my views on game piracy over the years as I've become closer to the industry. I think it's only fair and reasonable that you pay for a game that you're going to play.…
Hey everyone! I have here something of a small Sekiro fan art project that I could use some feedback for. I modeled Sekiros Arm from the game and I’m working on building a small scene to go with it, but I’m having trouble with my composition and lighting designs. I had originally made this in 2019 for an art contest hosted…
