Regarding the Xeon: I only recommend the E3 1230v3 so often because it has the most bang for the buck if you don't need the integrated GPU and the ability to overclock your CPU. I think you're getting some compression artefacts from those gradients. I recommend that you re-do them in Photoshop and make them one pixel tall.
