fly_soup, those are some handy tricks but wouldn't be easier to record an action that saves your image as a pattern then creates a new doc that is 4-16x bigger then your current, then fills the space with the tile pattern? Anywho I guess texturedesk takes care of that... -

A standard mechanical HD has a life of ~750000 hours, that's a whole life dudes! with SSDs you never have enough space, and to be moving files constantly... err, it's a pain for our workflow imho. you need more reference. You're going off of one, fairly small photo. After about 3 minutes of research, I'd say you're reference is (roughly) an 1860 Colt. That will help you find more reference. One saving grace, I would say, as that all the maps were designed, tuned, and tested for 9v9 and not 12v12 or 16v16, etc. You may find the experience, with this sort of forethought, to be greater than the original. -2 cents -
