Fair point. I just didn't think keeping a 4K texture on screen at all times was really a big deal. It's like what, 48mb out of 8GB of texture memory on a PS4/Xbone. I think even the switch has 4GB of video memory, doesn't it? That's why I figured 4K skybox isn't such a big deal.
I'm highly interested in purchasing something like Maya LT, but the FBX polycount really kills it for me. Current gen and PS4/Xbone characters can easily exceed 25,000, so it wouldn't be a viable option to me if a client needed an FBX file. Raise the limit to 100,000 and I think that is more realistic for game industry…
I make every texture nowadays at 4096x4096 for ps4/xbone/pc spec. You can always downsample, but never upsample, despite what CSI would have you believe. Almost every engine has some kind of texture streaming technology anyway so unloading the top mips of a texture is quite easy.
That right there is why I believe the new consoles are going to be successful. Sony has basically say ya, you can play used games if you ahve the disk. IF you have the disk. but they have such a huuuge focus on their online store, I bet 80% of all games for the ps4 wont HAVE a disk. they`ll be digital only.
I won't buy it until PS4 is announced lol Seriously, I still don't see a solid set of games which make it worth buying the PS3. Tekken 6 is coming to XBox 360 too, if God of War 3 gets accompanied by some other cool games I'll consider it(yes, SONY that's right :P)

nvm, was tired and its hard to tell what this even is. in any case, its an untested engine and basically looks like a remake of unity but with potentially but not definitely yebis post. but without the 25 platforms. i dont even see ps4/xbox1 listed and as such, why wouldnt i just license or get better post for unity.

Hi Thanks for the reply, The helmet is 5k Tris/ 2k polys, whilst the head is 30k tris, i am indeed going for a portfolio piece / maybe a FFxv /ps4 type polycount I have read that one character has around 100k polys in the game, would this equal to 200k tris ? or do they mean the tris are 100k?
