I did a quick test and it seems to work for me to just select both objects and pressing ctrl+j. -

I added functionality to remove only selected object(s) from lists instead of clearing the whole list. -

Upper right roof suggest problem with normals, select all faces and move/copy them to the new object. -

you need to make sure she's selected in the bot roster and that you're using the bot roster and not 'map defaults' -

Apparently, you can play as NOD in the demo, just click the pulldown menu and hit N to select that side.
