Wish I knew why, I asked Epic several times (plus emails) about said issue when I was making my master vertex material, and what is the logic behind it, but they didn't answer. I'm guessing they don't consider it a bug, but it still raises the question as to why this 'method' isn't documented for Environment Artists if…
Having Valve, id Software, Epic Games and Unity Technologies all support the Oculus at the same time is enough for me to pledge for a dev kit! The worst thing that can happen is that Samsung, Sony and other big companies start some serious rivalry and competition after seeing the popularity of the product. If our pledges…
Your engine sounds really impressive. As specially for a two person project. I used GTK3 for some small python programs as well (Mostly for a custom UE4 launcher because epic doesn't provide the launcher on Linux :/ ). But I didn't knew it could handle a whole engine. Do you have a twitter account? I would love to be kept…
Yeah man, that's exactly what I thought too. Did you get the non-contiguous islands idea from the World of Level Design tutorial? I actually used to unwrap contiguous until I watched that. Now it's back to contiguous. I cn't believe it took Epic this long to bring out a video on this stuff, clarifying some of the…
I think its more a fault of Epic for still betting on the outdated 3dsmax specific ASE format (3ds ASCI format). If you have max as well maybe have a look at the files in a text Editor and compare them. It might be perhaps just fixing some typo stuff. This might help perhaps:…
all the blank space in your lightmap UV's get filled up with black pixels on the lightmaps. So if you unwrap a sphere into the UV coordinates you've shown here you'll get lightmap bleeding between the black spots and the lit spots. Unwrap your object with as few UV islands as possible to reduce this. Here's epic's tutorial…
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/955/Environment-Modeling-for-Games#.VYwgfHpVi40 An overview of some great techniques using curves as well as some really good meta-art topics and technical bits and bobs. If you have any inkling into procedural texturing/Substance Designer check out Allegorithmic's youtube…
Zaphk , you already know everything I have to say about your skins so I'll save it from you hehe ;) In simple words, epic :) Which guide was rebelholic talking about ? link sends to an empty album :S Can't wait for your guide, If there is one thing I am having problems with is the alpha channel - making wear levels look…
I use Unreal Engine 4 on a daily basis and that's how we proceed indeed. Imagine you're just texturing a big quad, with all your logic/tiling inside the shader itself. The you bend this quad in-engine, duplicate it along a spline and that's it. There's even a tutorial from Epic Games about this specific feature in UE4:…
Probably not as bad as it used to be. I remember guilds had to have designated blacksmiths in Molten Core to get all the minerals for the guild to level. I also had to hunt Devilsaur to level my leatherworking... back before even rare items were the norm. I remember wearing all level 40-50 greens hunting those mofos w/my…
