As far as I can tell, the largest resolution on a commercial display is 2560x1600, they cost around $1.2k and are 30" Really the only thing I hope that comes from this is higher resolution displays, we've been "stuck" at 1080p for far too long. They have made 4k resolution tv's, but I'm not counting those.

Just a guess. What resolution are you viewing your sword? I think it's the case of your texture getting down-sampled because the display resolution gives you much less than 4K. Plan a little before hand and make your texture size according to the resolution you plan to display them.

Yes you are wrong. If you have a low resolution lightmap on a BSP surface the shadows will just become a big blur and you will lose any sort of shadow definition.
