Hey, First thing that stood out to me on the Alf model the fur is lacking variation. You're on the right track, though. A couple of tutorials you could check out that have helped me with fur & hair: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85471…
Nice start. I haven't gotten to the hair for my entry yet, but I totally get what you're saying. I don't know if you ever ended up finding a hair tutorial that you liked, but this one is pretty good: http://www.3dartistonline.com/news/2015/04/how-do-i-create-real-time-hair-for-games/
Hi Britney! I think you're trying to paint the hair as too many threadlike separate strands, which gives the hair a busy, feathered look. It would be better to visualize the hair as bigger shapes, such as ribbons, that interlock and interweave. James Gurney made an interesting post about this on his blog, hopefully it…
I don't think the symmetry modifier works that way, seeing as how it has a "Weld Seam" checkbox. If you have an iteration of you model that is symetrical you can use my Mirror Morph target script. You need the symetrical model to match vertices, then you can apply the mirror.…

This is a concept done by Cliff Childs. http://conceptartworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Cliff_Childs_17a.jpg . Who gave me permission to model this weapon. You can view his work here. https://www.artstation.com/cliffy I loved the entire design of this weapon and tried to do the original artwork justice. I hope I did.…
2. Not sure about the release date of Megascans, however some charts already exist to serve as guidelines for creating materials. http://seblagarde.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/dontnod-physically-based-rendering-chart-for-unreal-engine-4/ Also check out this…
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/20/portal-2-in-4-hours-the-steam-timer-is-a-lie/ Game is much longer than 3 hours, especially if you explore all the areas. Great game, finished it today. Loved the gel puzzles, although the floating beam things really tripped me up.
http://www.3dartistonline.com/news/2015/04/how-do-i-create-real-time-hair-for-games/ The way alpha cards are placed there is how I did mine. Use proxy meshes if you need to create separate groups of volumes; don't just rely on your character's head for the base.
