You could also get really good at sculpting rocks, cliffs, trees, bricks, stone walls, etc. You may want to look into texture creation using sculpts as well. Just some more ideas for ya!
What version of mudbox are you using? Mudbox can paint on overllaping UVs and sculpting is irrelevant to UVs as it's mesh datas. I use 2014 at work and did that last week on buncha leaves. If you have the same material on 2 different meshes they will share the textures so you can check right away if your paint is working.…
Thanks guys ^^ danpaz3d: For the tree i wanted to try Speedtree, but for the only tree in the map, which is supposed to be unique and original, a sculpt will be better. Defenitely on the to-do list ^^ FullSynch: yeah don't like these very much, but they were in the miniature, so I had to put them in the scene :/
This is quite interesting so far. Make sure you've got a type of tree species that you're trying to sculpt if you're going realistic, and get lots of detailed ref photos. I feel like tree bark is super complex, so good on you for going after it!
Another little update: This is a new tree sculpt for the cliffside that I will be adding. It is sitting at 2100 triangles. WIll post textures/ canopy when I finish them.
Ok quick update got a tree sculpted out and did a quick render with a base texture from keyshot to see if i like the look. I think i do. This tree will be holding the roof up. And i have some knotwork i drew up for the main archway.
Ok I got the trees down to 3-5k tris while still looking full and interesting now. what I did was reduce steps on branches and leaves. And reduce frequency while making the leaves bigger in size to keep it look full. Now the thing is, our trees will be giant, because in our game, the character has been shrunk to the size…
So I've spent today sculpting a tree base in zbrush... This tree will be widely used around my UE4 level... so right now this sculpt has 3 subtools... 1 x tree base 2 x branches I'll be reusing the branches to build 3 or 4 variations to place around my scene... since in the concept some of these trees look pretty tall in…
