usually, even numbers of sides on a cylinder, 4, 6, 8, are very obvious, while 5, 7 and 9 seem more "round" because your eye can't visualize the symetry as well.
Nah renders to promote your skin are fine man, just be sure to add 2-4 workbench pictures aswell. In the cs:go workshop people use renders to promote their skins 24/7!
Baked it down on 7 separate maps for modularity's sake, as it's intended for Fallout 4 (when it's moddable, anyway). Was a pain in the ass but should be worth it so that I can swap bits out with ease.
Out of the studios I've worked for, 7 used Maya, and 4 used Max, 2 of them used something else. If I get to choose, I always choose Maya for rigging/animating
