Sir Apple - There are a bunch of posts on tires in this thread, here is one: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1505700#post1505700 yours is similar, but more simplified. Make 1/2 of one tread, mirror and offset it. Use that to duplicate all the way around for a complete tire....
It still needs some optimizing, but should give you one, of many, ways. Clockwise from top left: 1. spline 2. renderable spline converted to mesh 3. delete some edges and caps 4. extrude and refine 5. symmetry 6. smooth
Yeah subd requires a twisted evil mind (no wonder why perna excels at it) , less intuitive than zbrush or booleans for defining shapes. Zbrush comes to a point where doing a hard surface mockup is as fast as subd, kinda like boolean. Not forced to focus on shape and topology at the same time. I don't see cheating here,…
1. choose the flat mesh 2. go to animation > create deforms > Nonelinear > bend 3. Rotate the "Bend" Line so it sits flat with the mesh 4. click on the curvature and play around with the numbers to fit it around in a circle (Usually it's a PI, 3,1415 so it fits around perfectly)
I'm unsure why either is better or worse than the other. If i learned anything from PC, and modeling in general, It's that there is more than 1 way to skin a dragon. I'd like to see EQ and Perna go at it at work arguing over how to make some shape :D
There's lots of ways to make that shape. In this video i show 2. The pic posted earlier uses WAY 1, but i think WAY2 is nicer. http://vimeo.com/6143806 i guess the video hasn't finished uploading. here is the direct link http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/93793/Modo_Sight_Top.avi
I've hit a snag on a recent project, and I wanted to know how others would approach it. I've tried putting in more support edges, but those seem to just make the area too sharp. That's issue 1. The shading is also messed up in the second area at different angles.
I normally do that, but i just wanted to show how to get the shape done. And i split the top poly row too. And if you skip part 1-3 like i said in my edit you won´t need that either, because it´s already done :P
@ himadri_sm Kind of a weird shape but the steps to make this is pretty simple and short. I'm using 3ds max but any app should have similar tools to do this.. 1. create two objects, one with a sharp corner and another with the desired curve.. you'll want to maintain the same proportions, edge distances and number of…
Hey! Thanks linkov. On my other thread someone already suggested something similar. While it creates some pinching, I think I might be able to get away with it for now. Sorry for no explaining what the model is. It's this one: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCzC--3ojf8&hd=1[/ame]
