Damn, Ben. Not only are your models clean, your textures are simply fantastic. Also, fantastic detail to some of these weapons, certain touches that really pull it off. Simply a inspiration, keep crushing it dude.
These both look great! My only critique for your next stylized weapons would be to push the shape a little more. Both blades are just 'straight-edge' but the texture is saying it's received significant use.
Finally get to contribute to this awesome thread! This is my entry to the Mixamo character contest. Concept was by Joseph Silverman - http://catkilo.com/ 14k tri's, 2048x2048 dif, spec, gloss, norm And the weapons without their covers on:
Bek-Thank you for the feedback! I definitely want this to be a weapon for close-ups, so I will keep heading in the direction it is going. I will be finishing up the low poly tonight, hopefully. Thanks again!
I would say hold on the model and watch some tutorials on the process first. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/next-gen-weapon-creation-day-1-the-high-poly-model/
So, after mucking about with DDo (thoroughly managing to break it more than once), here's an update. Weapon is ~6,500 tris heavy and textured with 2048^2 D/N/S/G maps.
Really nice. It could be better with a base and a weapon or something, with a pose ( you can try Mixamo auto-rig, it works really weel with simple characters like this, and you can use it twice for free ).
Yes I can. Updated it a bit more recently but I'm calling it basically done, it was only meant to be a test to see how I got on with creating a weapon. Texture sheets (Diffuse, Spec, Normal):
The dicks should detach and recombine into a giant dick-sword or weapon! Kidding aside, they do look glued on. In the sketch they look like they're a natural extension of the ogre's body. Other than that this looks awesome.
@BringMeASunkist The stock and the pump will be rubberized, i'll do it in the texture and the normal map. For now i'm planning to do as if it's a new weapon. Little update: remade the pumper on high poly and added a little detail to the stock
