Made some more progress over the last little bit. Working on getting it detailed and refined with zspheres and creasing + boolean. The upper body and armour is 90% done, I'm working on the little military bags and then moving down to the leg armour and feet before starting retopology.
Yeah, I have a lot to learn. The response and feedback I've been getting is amazing! I'm still learning, so I don't have a definitive pipeline; but this is what I usually do: 1. Take time to decide on a topic; this is pretty important; oftentimes grandiose things like elaborate suits of armour, or dragons, are more flashy…
Initial progress on the primary sculpt for the robot knight. We realised that there may be a problem with mobility around the hips, so we have sepearted the armour plates further to increase range of motion. An absolutely fantastic start! Credits: Zahra Tilling
looks pretty cool! Congrats! if I may criticize something, than it would be that black "under armour". compared to the rest of the armour it looks bland, maybe add a little bit of details in it, here and there a litte cut, or even a tiny pattern overal
Armour plating is all wobbly, try some harder forms. Not sure about evolution of heavily armoured shoulders and unarmoured forearms. Make the neck a bit less nebulous and more anatomically referenced? I quite like it, looks a warthog-ish
hey guys so i decided to go on and retopologise the high poly so i can rig and pose the mesh and maybe even animate it. i also wondered if the armour should be solid or hollow and if the armour as a separate mesh will work well.
Finally finished these studies. I also decided to try making a load of material spheres and a short tutorial on rendering armour and understanding light/shadows over on my blog. If you're interested you can find it here: http://samsantala.blogspot.fi/2017/03/armour-studies-material-spheres.html
I'm going as a gladiator :P Got the sword, shield, body armour, helmet and leg armour. I tried to find a firefighter costume, but I couldn't find a costume for an adult guy. Apparently they only make firefighter costumes for liitle boys and skimpy sexy firefighter costumes for the ladies.
difference is it kind of looks right on big power armoured dudes with massive shoulders etc, but this guy has pretty form fitting armour and the stylised proportions are brought into focus without the counterbalance. I think the modeling and texture are great, but would prefer slightly reduced arms/hands myself
Hey dude, he's looking awesome so far. I agree with Ryan on the Armour as areas like his hips will deform around a tight girdle etc... But you only just told me on skype that you're starting armour today so I'll shut up. Great start!
