I like them both a lot, I am however a bit entangled with the new VG Remix Challenge. Its not exactly this, but I like the idea of doing something really low poly and low texture size. -
Re: Lightmaps in max viewport?
Why use Max with a VM? Can't you just use Maya? Just use Windows if you want decent shaders in 3DS Max, as far as I know you can't have any in OpenGL. Bit of a strange situation you put yourself in. -

Re: Quick and easy grass texture
Ah yeah, I used this tecnique for the weed in my Far Cry 3 scene for VG Remix. If you do it black to white, you basically have a z-map. Add some highpass to that and you get a great AO approximation. -

R.I.P. Game Music Jukebox
http://www.gamemusicjukebox.com/ I don't know how many of you visited Game Music Jukebox during its tenure (I've seen it posted here a couple of times), but I've always enjoyed it whenever I want some VG-tunes. Sad to see it go, even if there are other ways to listen to game soundtracks. Also, someone buy it.
