Don't bother with that! Pick up a good reference photo or texture, and copy it. It's all in your eye! Great example Suffeli. It's like, an organic texturing 101! -

ha ha I loved truespace Blaizer, could n't get the hang of lightwave though I used imagine for dos before I switched to 3ds max 1.1 -

I agree that viewing distance will obviously matter. But I do want the picture to be the highest quality possible. Especially when I'm going to be spending 130 dollars on a print :) -

First low poly in UDK. Quite a few baking errors and a big seam. Couple more rebakes and then starting on the texture, wire coming next post! 13k tris:
