Right now I'm working on a character that is neither Halo nor Sci-fi and I still had to do a lot of hardsurface work, how does that happen? Everything that isn't organic is hardsurface, and even with organic basemeshes your hardsurface skills will come in handy. I suppose you can deal without these skills when you work on…
Hi! A couple of days a aggo, I really wanted too learn how make characters, mainly since I only do Hardsurface models... And I thought that I would make a "cartoonich" style, and maybe try some HandPainting. I would start with a Concept, and go from there... My problem was that I went allitle too far out from my own…
I think this is finally ready to be posted here for some feedback! This is a personal project I've been working on off an on for awhile now. Harumi Namba graciously allowed me to use her concept for this project. I wanted to force myself outside my comfort zone and do something handpainted. A lot of my art feels like it…
These were all for one of my five classes. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot but need to learn more. Crits are more than welcome. So here are a couple of textures I made in Zbrush using wrapmode, handpainted in Photoshop. Then put into the UDK Rat! Also done is Zbrush using Zspheres (bleh) then put onto a lowpoly, and…
Sorry for the slow update, been busy (mainly playing Spiderman tho lol) This is my first pass on a rough handpainted texture i am going for. This is a render from inside Marmoset and still WiP as mentioned but want to give you a visual on the colours for this character. Initially I wanted a purple-ish skin tone but I found…
first of all, thank you guys :D @Miles: that's why i initally started with bakes and photosource, even for the totally handpainted apearing dudes, getting such a job without the real experience was quite hard in first place, but you learn while you are doing it, with the time i could drop the photosources and bakes for the…
Hey guys My first post here, and I've been struggling a little with handpainted textures and generally trying to get that stylised/lowpoly look. I started trying to make handpainted textures about 7 weeks ago and I have no drawing background what so ever, and whilst finding some really useful tutorials I still find myself…
As far as anyone knows or is allowed to say, WoW doesn't use PBR. It's using legacy shaders. No normals, no specular map, just a diffuse map that's light in-engine with a fairly simple lighting set up. You should translate handpainted to just "fine arts painting." If you're not approaching your texturing work like an…
Thank you for the breakdown of the hair, that's essentially what i'm doing aswell, with the difference of making my texture in zbrush with the curve brush, being able to bake normal maps. Though i'm not satisfied with the results, similar to your picture from your first hair texture test. Maybe i should give the…
I disagree with the above; don't sharpen the textures! And if you do, be careful. It looks great in 2D, but from my experience handpainting, sharpened textures in 3D dont look as good as originals (only really applies to handpainted things though). Here's an example of a crate I made. First is sharpened, second is…
